Types of dc motors

Types of DC Motors:General data: DC Motors are used in variable speed applications.
Homopolar DC Motor: A direct-current (dc) generator whose poles have the same polarity, with respect to the armature. Thus, no commutator is necessary.
Commutator DC Motor: In a direct-current (dc) motor, generator, or rotating selector, an arrangement of parallel metal bars or strips on a rotating drum. As the drum turns, the bars contact one or more brushes that are in sliding contact with the commutator.
PM DC Motor: [Permanent Magnet] motor uses a permanent magnet instead of armature windings are mounted on the rotor.Permanent Magnet [PM] motors are normally small and produce little horsepower.
Series DC Motor: connect the field windings in series with the armature, used for high-torque loads.
Shunt DC Motor: use high-resistance field winding connected in parallel with the armature.
Compound DC Motor: combine the series and shunt types.
